LIST and ITIS department
The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) helping to enhance Luxembourg’s competitiveness and its position as a global hub for excellence in research and innovation. Three R&D departments, Materials Research and Technology (MRT), Environmental Research and Innovation (ERIN), and IT for Innovative Services (ITIS) contribute to LIST’s research priorities, in line with Luxembourg’s government strategy. Expertise, know-how and associated technologies help tackle challenges in four interdisciplinary programmes: Smart Cities, Smart Finance, Smart Space, and Smart Manufacturing. LIST transfers outcomes of applied research to support public and private companies in mastering problems of practical relevance and boosting innovation.
As for IT, the objectives of the ITIS department fall directly within the framework of the “Digital Lëtzebuerg” strategy of the Luxembourg government. ITIS aims to bolster this domain through multi-disciplinary scientific and technological research. The department gathers highly skilled researchers and engineers from various disciplines to address technological, organizational, human, and economic aspects of innovative IT services. ITIS’s research programme focuses on the challenges involved in digital transformation of processes and organizations. Machine learning, data mining, information retrieval, context-aware personalization and recommendation, human-computer interaction as well as workplace embedded education and assessment technologies belong to ITIS expertise portfolio. In such a line, ITIS contributes to studies and projects aiming to anticipate the competences needed regarding digital transformations (e.g. the study e-jobs of the “Observatoire des Compétences” and the project BIM4VET which addresses the challenge of Business Information Modeling in the construction sector). It develops technology-driven approaches with a core expertise in automatic generation of tests for diagnostic, as well as formative assessments (e.g. CROSS SKILL which generates tests from job profiles for self-assessment purposes, the Automatic Item Generator which produces tests from a source (text or model), the technology-based assessment platform TAO®). Finally, ITIS contributes to trainings managed by the House of Training and Master degree dedicated to IT (e.g. the Master in Information Systems Security Management, the Master Computer Science Applied to Business Management – Specialization in IT and Innovation).
